Archival Preservation & Environmental Management

For the serious collector in Dublin 9, the preservation of game components is a technical necessity. At hufyqaz, we provide guidelines for the archival storage of tabletop assets to prevent “component fatigue” and degradation. The environmental conditions at 18 Charlemont are carefully monitored to ensure the longevity of high-value titles and historical gaming artifacts.

Preservation Engineering:

  • UV Radiation Shielding: We advise on the storage of game boxes away from direct sunlight to prevent “ink-fading” and the degradation of organic binders in the paperboard.
  • Acidity-Free Protection: For card preservation, we recommend the use of “acid-free” and “PVC-free” polypropylene sleeves. This prevents the chemical migration of oils from the cardstock, which can lead to sticking and surface damage over time.
  • Hygroscopic Stabilization: Wood and paper are hygroscopic, meaning they absorb moisture from the air. In the Dublin 9 climate, we recommend maintaining a relative humidity of 40% to 50% in storage areas to prevent “molding” and the expansion/contraction of wooden “meeples.”
  • Structural Storage: We utilize high-load shelving to prevent “box-crushing,” ensuring that the structural integrity of the lower boxes in a stack is not compromised by the weight of the collection.
